American dollar is represented by $
UK Pound is given the symbol £
Japanese yen has ¥
Euro has a representation too €

The Indian government announced a contest to win a little over $5000 to come up with a symbol for the Rupee.
A few of the finalized symbols could be seen below. They are going to announce the result today (June 24, 2010).
Which symbol do you accept? Do you have any other symbol in your mind? If yes, sorry you're a little late, unless you know Mrs. Sonia Gandhi.
