The Motivation to Work

One question that everyone needs to ask themselves.
What is my motivation to work. If any one has an answer as Money, then thats the end of a career. I would be more sad if that answer comes from a person who has an IQ above 150. The motivation for work is to return something to the society. People doing science would be the first among them. Work in academia, research hard, finding something new and give it back to the society. People would work more on the findings to find something new, which is applied back to better our lives.
What would be the resultant if everyone was working just to fill bank accounts with money. Using all your talent just to satisfy yourself and your family. Resultant would be that you would work only during your office hours, 8 hours or whatever that is told to you to work for, you hate your job, want to get out of your office the moment you get in, wail away all the time you have, what is the use of such a person to the society. I have seen scientists who crave for time, who work day and night just to satisfy their passion to excel. Its so unfair that all the worthy and the unworthy have the same amount of time. I hate people who have tons of time at their hands but do nothing. Motivation for work should not be money, should never be.

The Pain in Love

It's the voice of helplessness,
which at this time, is out of control...
should I blurt out my wishes,
and break you tight in arms?
Can't figure out what I need,
have no idea what to do,
should I snatch you, or let go...

What should I do at this moment to get some peace,
let there be more, more noise of breaths which move towards the flame,
let there be more, more noise of breaths which rise towards the heat,
let there be more, lets get more and let them burn even more...

I meet you for the first time, every time,
the turmoil of passion burns me alive,
it's the voice of helplessness my love,
should I snatch you or leave you,
should I ask for you or let you go the other way...

I have become a string tangled in wishes, come untangle..
I am a knock at your closed doors, please open..
My helplessness is staying in the heart,
come to me, lets live and while living, we'll live the dream..
there shall be more, more noise of breaths which shall move towards the flame,
there shall be more, more noise of breaths which shall rise towards the heat,
there shall be more, we shall get more and they shall burn even more..

Desires dont't stop even when stopped;
When a realm of emotions erupt, no one knows what burns and where,
the flames of wishes shiver the body and soul;
because of this fear, they would burn even more...

It's the voice of my helplessness,
its out of control and its killing me...

-Irshaad Kamil - hats off to you

You know you're alive when...

If you are moving
with an eagerness in your heart,
then you are alive..
if you're moving
with the sparks of dreams in your eyes,
then you're alive..
learn to live freely
like the gusts of wind,
Learn to flow in waves,
like a river does..
Meet every moment
with your arms open,
Every moment these eyes should
watch a new weather,
If you're moving with
a bewilderment in your eyes
then you are alive,
If you are moving
with an eagerness in your heart,
then you are alive..

The Truth of Getting Over Someone

After a breakup from a serious relationship, you often tend to suffer for a long time. The length of the time depends on how serious you were in the relation. During this period, you're pained a lot, so many minute things make you remember her that it gets impossible to get her out of your mind. After a lot of trouble begins a phase where you slowly start getting back to your regular life and start thinking less about her. This is the phase of getting over them. You would realize that you have started forgetting her and this is what people call getting over someone but actually, you never get over someone, its just that your brain develops a habbit of not thinking about them anymore, but when someone or something prods it up, somewhere a pain starts again. The love for the person never really dies, its not that you want to get back with her,no, not at all. It is the value you give to the relationship. You would want to continue to be with that exact same person with whom you had those wonderful moments, but its not the same person now, the character has changed now. The warm pleasant feeling is no more present.

If you're lucky enough, after a breakup you accidentally find someone who loves you more than ever. She could be the one who would help you in the process of getting over that someone. If this happens, then that is the best thing that would have ever happened to you.

Steve Jobs didn’t

Steve Jobs did not create products. He created an organization that predictably and reliably created emotionally resonant products.
Steve Jobs did not make movies. He made a company that predictably and reliably made blockbusters.
Steve Jobs did not wrest market share from competitors. He created new markets that attracted and sustained competitors.
Steve Jobs did not design anything. He gave others the freedom to think about what jobs products are hired to do.
Steve Jobs did not re-engineer processes. He brought engineering processes to works of creativity and the creative process to engineering.
Steve Jobs did not develop new management theories. He showed by example that innovation can be managed.
Steve Jobs was not a visionary. He put the dots together and saw where they led.
Steve Jobs was not a futurist. He just built the future one piece at a time.
Steve Jobs did not distort reality. He spoke what he believed would become reality at a time when those beliefs seemed far fetched.
Steve Jobs was not charismatic. He spoke from the heart compelling others to follow him.
Steve Jobs was not a gifted orator. He spoke plainly.
Steve Jobs was not a magician. He practiced, a lot.
He had taste.
He was curious.
He was patient.
He was foolish.
He was hungry.

These things many others can do. Maybe you can.

Let us support Anna Hazare

Here is the message from Anna Hazare supporters. Please sign up the petition

Dear friends across India,

Right now, Anna Hazare, a 73-year-old Gandhian, sits in the burning sun fasting, and he will stay until death -- unless the government agrees to consider a powerful law that could rid Indian politics of the scourge of corruption.

This “Modern Mahatma” is taking the utmost act of courage and determination to push through a bill that would give an independent body the power to punish corruption -- even in the Prime Minister’s office. Across the country a movement has exploded, and a media storm of pressure has been sparked that’s engulfing Singh. But dirty politicians are desperately trying to water down or kill the law.

For the first time in forty three years, we have the chance to change the way politics is done. Let's join together and stand with Anna Hazare to tackle corruption and clean up Indian politics. We have no time to lose -- sign the petition to Prime Minister Singh and send this on to everyone:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/stand_with_anna_hazare/97.php?cl_tta_sign=09103e92f30255a897b575599f7e5a97

Hazare is championing a citizen-developed bill called “Jan” Lokpal that will create an independent body, selected by judges, citizens and constitutional authorities, with enough power to investigate and punish all politicians. No minister or bureaucrat will be able to influence its investigations.

Since 1968, when this bill was first introduced, greedy politicians have thwarted its passing. Now the government is pushing for a watered down Lokpal with no hope of ending fraud, vice and dishonesty -- it gives politicians overriding power to decide who will be investigated, and is a complete eyewash.

Pressure is mounting on Prime Minister Singh to endorse the "Jan" Lokpal. Members of the opposition party have begun to make the right noises in support of Anna Hazare. And even the National Advisory Council, a powerful advisory body to Sonia Gandhi have come out in favour of the bill. But corrupt politicians and vested interests are doing all they can to kill it.

Anna Hazare has set the example. But only a national citizens movement can ramp up the pressure to get Singh to endorse “Jan” Lokpal and save Hazare's life. Sign the petition and forward it to everyone now:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/stand_with_anna_hazare/97.php?cl_tta_sign=09103e92f30255a897b575599f7e5a97

Corruption in politics has become a plague across our country, it is draining our resources and demoralizing our nation. This bill would go a long way to deterring those that steal and undermine the public good. Last year, the Avaaz community in Brazil won an important victory -- against the odds millions of people came together and pushed through a historic anti-corruption law. India has a proud history of people power overcoming oppression -- today if we all stand with one voice we can fight this corruption that is poisoning our political system.

With hope,

Saloni, Shibayan, Ricken, Ben and the whole Avaaz team.

Its not a virus, its your Incompetence

It had so many times; people who know less about computers come to me with a tiny problem and blame it on a virus. Its not a virus, you cannot see your files because they are hidden, all you need to do is to check the box which says, show hidden files. Your wallpaper automatically changes because you enabled that feature on your desktop background, its not a virus. Your printer cannot print because the wire has been unplugged. These are just a few examples, I have plenty more. So my final point is, people who blame more on viruses are those who are the least knowledgeable about their computers.

Dreams and its followers

I often wondered about dreamers and the way they live. Some people dream and they are so mad about their dreams that they go chasing behind them and consider them as their reasons for existence. Christopher Columbus had one and he chased it. People called him mad but he never stopped. He was undeterred and his stern vision led him to the discovery of America. It may not be wrong to dream but people must aim for something that is possible to achieve. So, do all people dream for what can be achieved, if yes, how many go chasing them and if they do, how many really succeed in achieving their dreams? How would one know that the thing he’s aspiring to create or what he wants to become is really possible or not? A poor man dreaming to be rich is plausible, but the poor man dreaming to be God is erratic. Also, many times I wonder if people really stick to the same dream forever. Like a kid who dreams of being a superstar or sport star after growing up, turns up into something else, convincing himself that all his childhood dreams were just fantasies.

Responsibilities, I say, are the top notcher of a person’s dreams. People need to perform their duties, run their household and hence they dump their thoughts and lead a mechanical life. I don’t say they're wrong; it’s just an injustice of life. After all it takes guts for a person to quit his family and go running after his dreams.

Sometimes its money that matters. This is probably the worse, a person quitting his dreams because he doesn’t have enough funds to chase them. I am quite amazed how money is distributed among people. Those who have it don’t know what to do with it and those who don’t have it don’t know how to get it.
--------------------------------------

I moved around feeling a pulse,
a vivacious dream and a vivid thought,
'Was pricked by thorns and hit by stones.
Unswerved and unmoved,
I followed the path where my heart took me.

Sometimes it was dark,
I couldn’t see a thing,
the path scared me, but my determination helped,
gave me some light, showed me a way out.
I had no companion, neither did I need one.
My strength was my belief
My energy was my vision.
They were my friends,
I stuck to them until the end.

As I dragged along my way,
I felt no hunger or thirst.
All I could feel was an imminent destiny.

A masquerade of beauty came along,
A veiled ecstasy of joy to distract me,
Diversions could never avert me.
I remained strong, unnerved and undeterred
Only my target was in my mind.

I knew the final moment would come,
It would have the glow of a lifetime,
The purpose of my life would lie in there,
Immersed in the glory of that light would be
my life, my desires and my passions.

Internet is growing beyond limitations

Cisco has put together this amazing information about the growth of internet. In the year 2008, the number of devices connected to the internet has equaled the number of humans on Earth. In the year 2020, it will be 50 billion. See the following infographic for some exciting news on the Internet and how we might use it or rather, how the internet would make decisions for us to make our life easier.

Which Person are you?

This is a short story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about this, because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

A Principle to Remember

One of the principle I use very often. I encounter a number of people who like to argue on every small matter, I wonder how much they know about it. My advise is, only if you believe that the person arguing is smarter than you, then do engage, otherwise just stay out it.
This is also in line with one of my earlier articles which said, "When you argue with an Idiot, they drag you down to their level and then beat you with the experience they have" :)
So just show your wit to smart people and throw silence to the dumb.
And if you can't help it but land yourself in the argument, remember that you do have the option of getting out early.

Law for the Rich and Poor

You might always have had a doubt but might not have had something strong to prove your thought. I am going to show you something that will enlighten you on how law is strong for the poor and kind to the rich.

Grains of Sand under 250x Magnification

I always believed that everything in nature has some kind of beauty in it. Dr. Gary Greenberg has taken some sand grains and magnified them 250 times using his own developed high definition microscope and showed us how beautiful and colorful the sand grains are.

The Unfair life...

I sometimes feel that people who spend most of their lifetime finding something new, designing something innovative, building something helpful etc are not properly respected, their effort not properly recognized. How many of us have been using the iPhones or so many android based phones or the blackberries and know who developed the software or who invented the mobile phone atleast. How many of us are using those huge toll bridges knowing who built it and how much effort they have put in designing it. Can we imagine our life without the computer and internet, but do we know who developed the internet. The clothes that we put on, the food that we eat, the car that we drive, the shoes that we wear, the TV that we watch, the pen that we use to write; who made them, how much effort by how many people has been put in to develop them, won't they deserve some recognition, won't they deserve some respect. How many times do you think about them? I would say life is unfair for them. They must have made huge sacrifices to make our life so comfortable but we don't even think about them. Can we do something about it.

The Competition among Competitors

What happens when a number of people try to kill a single person. Well, you might think that they obviously end up doing their job, but think once again. I never said they are working together. Now what do you think?

In a similar fashion, a number of companies wanted to build a better phone than the iPhone. Follow the pictures to know what happened then.

The Return of Eklavya

Note: The following story is original and is a work of fiction.

His concentration was centered on the target. His eyes were blindfolded but his ears were wide open to the tinkling of the bell far across. His mind pictured the bell hanging to the neck of the deer. His goal was to hit the bell and stop the sound. The arrow was ready to leave his bow once he released his hold. At that moment, he paused a second and thought about his past.
He learnt the art of archery by practicing in front of Guru Dronacharya’s idol and later amazed a number of people with his talent. Dronacharya made a promise to his favorite student Arjuna that he’ll make him the best archer in the world; to satisfy which, Eklavya had to gift his right hand thumb to his Guru as "Guru dhakshina" (a gift to the Guru). He was dull and dejected with his life after this incident as archery was the only talent he had. His wife encouraged him to continue working on his archery albeit the loss of his thumb. He now held his bow with his right hand and pulled the arrow with his left. His strength was reduced but his aim was unperturbed.
He had to win today’s challenge to satisfy himself and his wife. He finally took one deep breath and let the arrow go. In an instant, everything became silent; there was no tinkling of the bell. He opened his eyes to see the deer drop dead, his heart broke, the audience laughed at his failure. After all the years practice, he was disappointed at losing his target, because of which the poor deer had to give away his life.
He went close to the deer to pull his arrow from its body, but to his surprise he found no arrow on the deer. He shook the deer and it immediately sprinted away from him, but now, he did not hear any tinkling of the bell when it ran. He looked around and found the bell on the ground, which was earlier hanging down the neck of the deer and which is now, hit by his arrow.
Everyone started praising him now on his victory. After learning about his success, his wife thought to herself, “Guru Dronacharya, you will never be able to keep up your promise; Eklavya would always be the best archer in the world”.

The Real Story: According to the Mahabharatha, after Eklavya gifts his right hand thumb to his Guru, he completely leaves his art of archery. He becomes a confidant of King Jarasandha, father of Rukmini, who elopes with Lord Krishna. Eklavya is later killed by Krishna in a conflict with King Jarasandha, who hence attains salvation.

Creativity

What is being creative?
Creativity is no longer the word that is registered for musicians or artists. It is something you can find in anyone. It’s the ability and urge to make something valuable. It can be big, it can be small, but making something new, something different, something that surprises, something that makes you think and something that makes you smile. It’s making something beautiful, it’s telling a story;  it’s telling your story, expressing yourself. It’s about being passionate; it’s creating something other people can use, sharing your creativity. It’s about relating that there isn’t any right or wrong way of doing things. There's not always that correct answer, only the answers that we create. What’s common for creativity is that it comes from inspiration, inspiration found in the world related and the people we live with. It’s found in what we share with them, building on what’s given from the diversity of people's thoughts and perspectives. So try and drop the assumption that we know how to do things and already know the solution. Stray away from the direct path, take risks, don’t be afraid to make mistakes, coz it’s only from mistakes that we learn and it’s from these mistakes that the really interesting things happen. We always may not create or invent, but we always learn when we try.

Camera's Antiblinking feature

The newer model camera's have anti blinking capability. So when you take a picture, the camera detects if someone has blinked their eye and eventually reports to you, so that you can take a better picture. This feature was all good until the Chinese started using such Cameras. See the picture below for full details

Japanese trick for Folding T shirts

First of all, Happy New Year 2011 all of you

As we know, the Japanese have some simple tricks of life in doing simple everyday jobs. I found one of them on the youtube.

Folding your clothes after laundry is always a boring job. Here's one trick that could make it easy as well as interesting
